1: dance; 跳舞
2: to hurry up; 抓紧,赶快。

Eg.1 Let's shake a leg! The music is great. 我们来跳舞吧!这音乐太棒了。

Eg.2 We'd better shake a leg, or we will miss the bus! 我们最好抓紧时间,否则就会错过公车了。

Eg.3 Come one, kids, shake a leg! It's already 10 o'clock. 快点,孩子,赶快啊!已经10点了。

shaking like a leaf: if you are shaking like a leaf, you are shaking a lot especially when you are very cold, nervous or frightened. 意味着你很害怕或者很紧张。

Eg.1 The child was shaking like a leaf while he was meeting with the principal. 见校长的时候小朋友很害怕。

Eg.2 I went to a place in the city, and I didn't know it was one of the most dangerous areas there. After I heard 5 people were shot and killed on the same day in the same place, I was shaking like a leaf. 前不久,我去了城里某处。去之前,我不知道那里是城里最危险的地方之一。回来之后我听说,我去的同一天里面,那里有五个人被射杀。我吓坏了。

Eg.3 I saw her just before her talk and she was shaking like a leaf. 她上台讲演之前,我遇到了她。她紧张极了。

like taking candy from a baby:very easy to do,extremely easy. 非常简单,如探囊取物耳。

Eg.1
A: It was a very impressive video presentation. I imagine it was very difficult to make such a complex work. 你做的那个视频演示给我留下很深刻的印象。我猜想做起来一定很麻烦吧。
B: No, it was very easy with this software -- like taking candy from a baby. It took me only an hour to make it. 不,用这个软件的话就很简单了——如同探囊取物耳。我只花了一个小时。

Eg.2 Selling my mother something I made is like taking candy from a baby — she can't say no. 把我做的什么东西卖给我妈太容易了——她不可能说不。

Eg.3 Taking the money from the safe will be like taking candy from a baby, since I know the combination. 自从我知道了密码组合之后,从保险箱里面拿钱就如同探囊取物一般了。

feel like a million dollars: be in excellent health and spirits. 精力充沛,精力旺盛。

Eg.1 He had a headache yesterday but feels like a million dollars today. 昨天他头疼,但今天又觉得很有精神了。

look like a million dollars: look extremely attractive. 神采奕奕;满面春风;容光焕发。

Eg.2 Alfred came back from Miami driving a fine car, tanned and glowing with health. He looked like a million dollars. Alfred 开着一辆漂亮的新车从迈阿密回来,晒得黑黑的,容光焕发,显得很健康。

新 Daily English (66): not hold water

not hold water: not seem reasonable or correct. 站不住脚。也可以说 hold water,意思是站得住脚, to stand up under criticism or analysis,经得起分析和批评的考验。不过还是否定形式用得多。

Eg.1 Their arguments against the government's foreign policy simply don't hold water. 他们反对政府外交政策的论据站不住脚。

Eg.2 Most agree that the mayor's reasoning for not taking an action doesn't hold water anymore. 大多数人都同意,市长不采取任何行动的理由已经站不住脚了。

Eg.3 That argument isn't likely to hold water with my father! 那论点经不起我老爸的推敲啊。

Eg.4 A lot of the stuff I believed in when I was 17 just doesn't hold water today. 今天看来,很多我在十七岁时曾经坚信不疑的事情已经不正确了。

Eg.5 If his theory holds water, it could be a breakthrough in cancer research. 如果他的理论经得起考验,那将是癌症研究领域的一大突破。

新 Daily English (65): dawn on

dawn on (somebody): become evident or understood, (某人)忽然明白了。亦作 dawn upon。

Eg.1 It has dawned on him that he was cheated. 他忽然意识到他受骗了。

Eg.2 Around noon it dawned upon me that I had never eaten breakfast. 快中午了,我突然意识到我还没有吃早饭。

这个词汇把破晓时分第一缕阳光的出现转义为思索过程的开始,非常形象。
